Strengthen Cross-Border Connectivity
Reinforce the physical connectivity infrastructure between Portugal and Spain with a new dedicated fiber optic corridor.
Cross-border fibre optic infrastructure project co-funded by the European Union under CEF Digital, implemented by lyntia, to strengthen connectivity between Portugal and Spain.
The Fibre Optic Corridor between Portugal and Spain (FOCPS) is an EU co-funded project under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital) programme, implemented by lyntia, to strengthen cross-border connectivity through a strategic, high-capacity and redundant fibre-optic route. It deploys an alternative terrestrial corridor supporting growing data traffic, enhancing competition and aligning with EU goals for resilient and integrated digital infrastructures.
Reinforce the physical connectivity infrastructure between Portugal and Spain with a new dedicated fiber optic corridor.
Provide an additional physical route between the two countries to reduce single points of failure and strengthen digital infrastructure resilience.
Enable long-distance, high-capacity optical data transport in accordance with international telecommunications standards.
Expand the capacity for interconnection between telecommunications networks and digital infrastructure ecosystems across national borders.
Reinforce the strategic position of the Iberian Peninsula within the broader European digital infrastructure network.
FOCPS contributes to strengthening international connectivity across
the Iberian Peninsula by developing an additional cross-border fiber
infrastructure corridor between Portugal and Spain.
The project increases network diversity, improves connectivity
resilience and supports the development of the European digital
infrastructure ecosystem.
New physical infrastructure independent of existing routes, reducing systemic vulnerability for operators and end users across the Iberian Peninsula.
An additional cross-border corridor diversifies the physical paths available for data transport between Portugal, Spain and the wider European network.
New colocation and shelter points create access opportunities for operators, supporting the growth of interconnection across Southern Europe.
The infrastructure developed within the FOCPS project enhances connectivity between telecommunications operators, digital infrastructure providers and data transport networks across Portugal and Spain.
Cross-border data transport infrastructure
Accessible to telecommunications operators in Portugal and Spain
High-capacity optical transport capability
Colocation and shelter points distributed along the corridor
Route diversity enabling flexible connectivity architectures
Contribution to the European digital infrastructure ecosystem
