Project Overview

The Fibre Optic Corridor between Portugal and Spain (FOCPS) is an EU co-funded project under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital) programme, implemented by lyntia, to strengthen cross-border connectivity through a strategic, high-capacity and redundant fibre-optic route. It deploys an alternative terrestrial corridor supporting growing data traffic, enhancing competition and aligning with EU goals for resilient and integrated digital infrastructures.

Project Objectives

Strengthen Cross-Border Connectivity

Reinforce the physical connectivity infrastructure between Portugal and Spain with a new dedicated fiber optic corridor.

Improve Infrastructure Resilience

Provide an additional physical route between the two countries to reduce single points of failure and strengthen digital infrastructure resilience.

Enable High-Capacity Optical Transport

Enable long-distance, high-capacity optical data transport in accordance with international telecommunications standards.

Enhance Interconnection Capacity

Expand the capacity for interconnection between telecommunications networks and digital infrastructure ecosystems across national borders.

Support European Digital Infrastructure

Reinforce the strategic position of the Iberian Peninsula within the broader European digital infrastructure network.

FOCPS contributes to strengthening international connectivity across the Iberian Peninsula by developing an additional cross-border fiber infrastructure corridor between Portugal and Spain.

The project increases network diversity, improves connectivity resilience and supports the development of the European digital infrastructure ecosystem.
